double in 40 years, the population increased

Spain is the third oldest country in the EU in 2050 with a population over 65 years around 32%, surpassed only by Italy (32.62%) and Slovenia (32.50%), as projections made by Eurostat.
This figure is twice the current, because if we consider the last census conducted by the INE, the population in this age group represents 16.6% of the total, 7,633,807 people.
In the EU, 17.08% of the population is over 65
In the case of foreign residents in Spain, the percentage is reduced by more than three times, and only 4.9% of those age 65 years 254,778 people (compared to total outsiders.) A minority compared to the more than 5,200,000 immigrants.
Now, in the whole EU, the figures are higher aging: a 17.08% of the population is over 65 years, which happen to 28.81% in just four decades, and where Spain is placed almost four points higher.
The Eurostat estimates almost coincide with the celebration Wednesday of World Mayor, which submitted a report which says that an active sex life in old age (65 years) favors a "healthy aging."
A major consumer group
On the other hand, households known as 'senior' (consisting of one or two people over 65 years), represented in Spain more than 4.5 million (14.1 million total national) according to the INE, which makes them an important consumer group.
In 2007, these households spent about EUR 17,500 million staples, representing 27% of the total.
