This tour we did in late November. The route began in Capileira, where we stayed (the highest village of the Alpujarras, at 1,450 m altitude). Time with us during the day. These photos were taken from the dunes near Timbuktu hotel (below) near Erg Chebby, just before sunrise. I remember how cold it was! 1 degree above zero.

Near the dunes and hotels every few years (some say every several tens) forms a large lake in the middle of the desert due to heavy rains. In January 2007 we were fortunate to witness this phenomenon.
